What is AS 9100?

AS 9100 Rev D (technically equivalent to EN 9100 and JISQ 9100) is the internationally recognised quality management system standard for the aviation, space, and defence industry, published under the International Aerospace Quality Group (IAQG).

It incorporates ISO 9001:2015 in full and adds aerospace-specific requirements covering product safety, counterfeit parts prevention, configuration management, first article inspection, control of critical items and key characteristics, and human factors.

Certification to AS 9100 — registered on the IAQG OASIS database — is a de facto entry requirement for supplying aerospace OEMs and Tier 1s worldwide.

Frequently Asked Questions

1

The time required to achieve AS 9100 certification depends on your organisation's QMS maturity, implementation progress, scope of certification, and certification body scheduling. As a planning guide, many organisations complete the process within 6–9 months, although the actual timeline is determined after assessing your current level of readiness and implementation plan.

2

No. AS 9100 incorporates every ISO 9001 requirement and adds the aerospace-specific controls your customers actually expect — risk management, configuration management, first article inspection, counterfeit parts prevention, and FOD control. You can pursue AS 9100 directly, and certification automatically demonstrates conformity to ISO 9001 as well.

3

All three share the same core structure, but each is written for a different role in the supply chain: AS 9100 covers design and manufacture, AS 9110 addresses maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) organisations, and AS 9120 governs distributors and stockists. We assess your business model during the gap analysis and implement whichever standard — or combination — matches how you actually operate.

4

A complete implementation package: AS 9100 Rev D gap analysis, tailored QMS design and documentation, process mapping, awareness and internal auditor training, a full internal audit cycle and management review, plus on-hand support during your certification body's Stage 1 and Stage 2 audits until any nonconformities are closed.
